Hey what’s up bro?
You are going to fail. That may be harsh to hear at first but let me explain.
Most people today tell us to visualize our success and imagine the big end goal, but that can actually be counter productive and only works in a select few individuals. The science behind it is interesting, but to keep it simplified: your systolic blood pressure goes up when you think of success and it slowly wanes over time. We want something more important, so I am going to give you the no bullshit answer completely for free.
Think of your failure. What will happen if you do not succeed? What will happen if you continue doing what you are doing? Take a second right now and actually think about that. The current literature finds that fear induces the same high blood pressure but is a lot more constant. The main reason being that our human nature is skewed to run away from bad things than going toward things we want or are trying to achieve.
If you actually do what I have suggesting you will be triggering a part of your brain called the amygdala responsible for goal setting. It is something within all of us and it is responsible for the manner in which we set our goals.
I will leave you with an example of something like running. Lets assume you want to run 5 miles before 8AM everyday for a week. Instead of thinking about the good health benefits and how great you are going to feel, think about how bad you are going to feel and how lazy and unproductive you will feel and the compounding effect of those thoughts.
